World Centric in Petaluma is one of the leading providers of completely compostable plates, cups, takeout containers, straws and other products.
“The fact is, you don’t need to pump a barrel of oil to make a plastic utensil or a hot cup,” says Mark Marinozzi, vice president of marketing for World Centric.
World Centric founder Aseem Das noticed the waste that tech companies were producing. And he wanted to provide an alternative. After starting in Palo Alto, Das relocated the company to Petaluma in 2010 after falling in love with the city after a visit here.
The company is a nonprofit that gives at least 25 percent of its profits to social and environmental causes. World Centric products are found nationwide in stores such as Whole Foods, Sprouts and Target.
