Who They Are & What They Do

Cowgirl Creamery produces award-winning cheese made with certified organic milk sourced from dairies in Marin and Sonoma counties. The company also operates two stores in California, and distributes cheese from other artisan and farmstead cheesemakers from around the country through their wholesale division, Tomales Bay Foods.

By the Numbers

Cowgirl Creamery award-winning cheeses are sold to over 700 stores, independent cheese shops, and restaurants, and can be found across the country at Whole Foods Market stores. In addition, the company distributes cheese for 16 of Sonoma and Marin’s best cheesemakers. Cowgirl Creamery and Tomales Bay Foods have grown steadily over the years at a rate of 10 percent per year. The company employs 100 people, 40 of whom work in Petaluma.

Why Petaluma?

Cowgirl Creamery/Tomales Bay Foods were founded in Point Reyes Station in 1997. In 2003, the company moved the majority of its production and wholesale operations to Petaluma to be closer to transportation and housing options, yet still maintain its ties to the farms and dairies of western Sonoma and Marin counties.
