Petaluma poet Forrest Gander was awarded the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for his collection “Be With.”

“I want to throw a big party in Petaluma and invite all of my friends,” says Gander, who has lived on the west side for the last five years.

The Pulitzer committee described Gander’s work as a “collection of elegies that grapple with sudden loss, and the difficulties of expressing grief and yearning for the departed.” Gander earned his master’s in creative writing at San Francisco State University.
