Incentive & Reimbursement Programs

California Competes is an employment tax credit for companies planning to move to CA or stay here and grow. Labcon, Solairus Aviation, and Revive are a few of the Petaluma companies that have been awarded this credit. Read more here.

Equipment Tax Credit: This program waives the state’s portion of sales taxes paid by manufacturers and R&D companies on equipment purchases. The program works best if you apply for the waiver at the time of purchase. However, there are ways to “clawback” taxes paid within three years of equipment purchase date. Get more info at the California Tax and Fee Administration website.
Use Tax Direct Payment: If your company purchases or leases equipment valued at $500K or more per year, you may qualify for a permit that allows you to pay sales tax directly to the city of Petaluma. This means a higher portion of sales tax stays in Petaluma. Check with your accountant to learn more. Then complete the form to keep tax dollars in Petaluma.

Training Reimbursement: The state’s Employment Training Program (ETP) reimburses companies for the cost of training employees. This program is open to different kinds of companies, but it particularly well-developed for manufacturers. To learn more, visit the ETP website, register for a webinar, or–if you are a manufacturer–get help from the California Association of Manufacturers & Technology Association.

Other Workforce Services: The State funds a number of programs to help companies hire and train new employees. In Sonoma County, these programs are managed by JobLink.
