The federal government now recognizes the Petaluma Gap as the newest American Viticultural Area.  The Petaluma Gap (which covers 4,000 acres) is Sonoma County’s 18th wine appellation.

The designation means wineries that use grapes from the area can put the “Petaluma Gap” designation on their bottle labels in an effort to differentiate themselves. Vintners believe the designation can attract more visitors.
